Michael Scanlan has been in private practice for over 35 years and was a partner for over 30 years in two of the UK’s leading medium-sized law firms.

During his time in private practice, Michael has been involved a wide range of matters both contentious and non-contentious, within the general commercial sector, employment and insurance (general and corporate) field.

He has litigated matters in the Commercial Court and Technology and Construction Courts of the High Court and in the Chancery division (Chancery; Bankruptcy; Intellectual Property and Enterprise Court) and on numerous occasions before the Court of Appeal and also before the Supreme Court and on numerous domestic and international arbitrations and mediations on matters across a broad range of sectors including engineering disputes; off-shore oil installations; aircraft leasing; copyright and trade name disputes; corporate insurance and professional negligence.  

On the non-contentious side Michael has many years of experience in the negotiation and drafting of a wide variety of commercial agreements, including, company share purchase agreements; shareholder’s agreements; exclusive agency distributions; technology contracts; IT Technology & Telecoms SAAS Agreements, Software Development and Licensing, Software Support and Hardware Maintenance, Outsourcing Contracts, Systems Integration, Directors agreements; finance broking agreements. On the advisory side, and apart from general commercial advice, Michael advises on FCA regulatory due diligence and fraud (SEIS and EIS schemes especially).
